We have three wonderful backpacker accommodations which are simple, elegant and affordable. They are upscale hostel accommodations at a great price. Tortugal offers all services a backpacker needs: a fantastic restaurant and bar, a multi-lingual exchange library, a television in the community room upstairs from the restaurant, laundry service, free kayaks are available to go to the Castillo (see Adventure), and a free internet connection. One can also walk to town from here through a hardwood forest to get provisions.

LA CASA NATURAL: Perhaps because this structure is so welcoming, one enters The Nature House with the unique feeling of deja vu. There is a bamboo-framed lounging area for visiting with interesting new acquaintances. Private rooms on the main level accommodate one or two guests. Up the narrow stairs one encounters two additional levels and rooms accommodating two or three additional guests. All bedrooms are fully screened in with fans, reading lamps, bamboo closets for belongings (guests should bring their own lock as rooms do not lock). There are two private bathrooms. To add to the magic, there is even a private sunbathing platform adjacent from which one observes life on the river going by.
A very short walk brings you to the open air restaurant which overlooks the Bridge and Castillo San Felipe and serves delicious, home-made food. This is not a typical backpackers place. Reservations should be made now as this building is newly renovated and very popular.

EL RANCHITO: Your own alcove in a fabulous open air loft overlooking the Rio Dulce at the edge of our marina; there is room for one to four persons – making it perfect for a small group. Fabulous sleeping quarters with mosquito nets to insure comfort. There is also a table and reading lights. There is a lounge, bathroom, and hammock downstairs on the dock level.
